The Peyote Road Film Presentation
Thursday, December 5 at 7 pm on Zoom

The 8th Principle Action Ministry presents, The Peyote Road, a documentary that addresses the United States Supreme Court ‘Smith’ decision, which denied the protection of 1st Amendment religious liberty to the sacramental use of Peyote for Indigenous people, one of the oldest tribal religions in the Western Hemisphere. Examining the European tradition of religious intolerance & documenting the centuries-old sacramental use of the cactus Peyote, The Peyote Road explains how the Smith decision put religious freedom in jeopardy for all Americans.

Joining us for the discussion is Fidel Moreno, who was raised in both old Mexico and the Midwest area of the United States. Moreno’s work in documentary film and video since 1983 has focused on the struggle and dialogues of indigenous people and communities in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Central America. He has worked directly with many communities, aboriginal leaders, chiefs and elders in documenting environmental actions and issues, human rights violations and crisis relief services.

Fidel won a Telly Award (https://www.tellyawards.com/) as one of the directors for The Peyote Road. He will join us for an introduction to the film, debrief and Q & A afterwards. We are honored to have the director of an award-winning film join us for the showing.
