The Anti-racism Ministry Team invites everyone to join us on zoom to watch Owned: A Tale of Two Americas. This film unearths the complicated, painful, often disturbing history of housing policy in America.
Is the “American Dream” of home ownership a false promise? While the government’s postwar housing policy created a large middle class, it also set America on two divergent paths – one of perceived wealth and the other of systematically defunded, segregated communities. The film takes us from Levittown to Orange County to Baltimore and exposes the flawed economic policy, and systemic racism that has distorted “the American dream”.
The film runs for 1 hour and 23 minutes. It starts at 6:30 and will be followed by a discussion around 8:00. It’s also available on PBS Independent Lens and Amazon Prime. Feel free to watch in advance and join us for the discussion.
We’ll send the zoom link on the afternoon of March 8.
