However, we think of membership as a deeper connection to the congregation. Choosing to take the step from \u201cfriend,\u201d to \u201cmember,\u201d means committing to the mission, vision, and principles of our congregation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Membership gives one the right to vote on congregational issues at our annual meeting each May (if obtained at least 30 days prior to the vote), or any special votes called by the Board throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also ensures inclusion in mailings which may go out throughout the year and shows your support for liberal religion in the Ithaca community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After becoming a member, you will also begin to receive a subscription to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UU World<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> magazine. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4>The Path<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Membership begins like any relationship does, by showing up. We will meet you where you are and hope you will join us as you are able. Consider:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attending on <a href=\"https:\/\/unitarian.ithaca.ny.us\/index.php\/worship\/upcoming-worship-services\/\">Sundays<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joining a <a href=\"https:\/\/unitarian.ithaca.ny.us\/index.php\/connection\/small-group-ministry\/\">Small Group Ministry<\/a> group<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coming to a <a href=\"https:\/\/unitarian.ithaca.ny.us\/index.php\/connection\/caring-committee\/\">special event<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pitching in on a <a href=\"https:\/\/unitarian.ithaca.ny.us\/index.php\/about-us\/our-elected-leaders\/our-committees\/\">team<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We want to know you and we hope you\u2019ll enjoy getting to know us and all we can offer!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Become a member \u2014<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you are ready to join, you will fill out <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a new member profile to <\/span>give us a little bit of information about you and your family.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will arrange a time for you to sign the membership book.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>New Member Recognition Ceremonies<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twice per year, we recognize our newest members in a special ceremony during Sunday service so that you may publicly share your official membership in this faith community.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Questions?<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have additional questions not answered here or would like to become a member, email membership@uuithaca.org. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever your path to get here, we welcome you and we value your commitment to our congregation. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What does it mean to be a member?<\/p>\n<p>A member is, simply stated, someone who has signed our membership book.
