  the Annex\nUse 208 E. Buffalo Street door for elevator access\n\nPrivate 
 equity firms in the healthcare industry have become a troubling menace as 
 they seek to extract outsized profits by buying up healthcare providers. 
  These corporate owners focus on cutting costs\, increasing prices\, and s
 tripping assets to maximize their short-term profits – all at the expens
 e of patients\, providers\, and taxpayers.  This is a topic that affects 
 every one of us!  Come to learn more!\n\nFUSIT member Judy Jones has been
  a healthcare advocate for many years.  In this session\, she will show a
  video of a lecture by Rosemary Batt\, a professor at Cornell’s School o
 f Industrial and Labor Relations.  Dr. Batt explains how private equity f
 irms work\, how they make profits\, and how their investments affect the c
 ost and quality of our health care.  She will also consider the threat th
 ese arrangements pose to the long-term goal of establishing a single-payer
  health care system.  There will be time for discussion and questions abo
 ut this important topic.
