This January First Unitarian Society of Ithaca is taking an exciting step in religious exploration: a visioning weekend with Kim Sweeney. But what is a visioning weekend? And who is Kim Sweeney?
Kim Sweeney is a credentialed Religious Educator who has worked for seven years as the Lead for Faith Formation and Safe Congregations on the UUA’s New England Regional staff team. In short, she puts her knowledge of Religious Exploration, teaching, and spirituality to work helping churches and organizations to develope their religious exploration programs. When Kim isn’t busy delving into congregational life and the complexity of spirituality, she can be found working at home on DIYs, playing with her chihauhaus, and spending time with her two teenage daughters.
Visioning is what Kim Sweeney specializes in and what she will guide our congregation through the weekend of January 4-6. The process will involve multiple meetings that will brainstorm ideas and goales for the future of FUSIT RE and what the congregation will strive for going forward.
On January 4th, Friday, from 6:00pm – 9:00 pm we will gather as a whole community. And that means anyone and everyone! Whether you have children you want to bring with you or you don’t have chilcdren at all, you are welcome to come for this time of spiritual deepening, discussion and activity. We will wonder together about who we are as the UU presence in Ithaca and spiritual home for all ages. And, if you’re hungry, pizza is available for $1 a slice.
On Saturday, January 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, Kim will meet with various leadership groups from the society. For instance: the team leaders council, the board, the staff, and the RE team. They will explore the ideas we have gathered and how they align with our vision of ministry and goals as a congregation.
Finally on January 6th our visioning weekend will draw to a close with a multigenerational worship experience that affirms our life long need for exploration, wonder and community-buidling. Reverand Margaret and Kim Sweeney will lead this service together. And stick around afterwards for a conversation with Kim to help us bring these ideas forward together, in community.
So mark your calendars and get ready for a great and productive weekend Jan 4-6. We hope to see you there!
