Congregational Administrator/Office Manager 

The First Unitarian Society of Ithaca seeks an energetic, warm Congregational Administrator to run our office and ensure smooth operations of the office and programs of the church. Candidates should have, first and foremost, an exceptional ability to work effectively with people, both in person and on the telephone. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. In addition, a good knowledge of general bookkeeping, good supervisory skills, the ability to key at approximately 50 words per minute, and experience and interest in computer hardware and software are required. Familiarity with current computer systems, and a willingness to recommend and learn system upgrades are important. The Congregational Administrator must have considerable initiative and a willingness to make decisions, act independently, and supervise others. JOB SUMMARY

This exempt, full time position (35 hrs/wk during school year and
12 hrs/wk during summer), works closely with the minister, staff, volunteers, congregants and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will have:
● Bachelor’s Degree preferred
● 5 years office management or equivalent experience
● Familiarity with religious institution environment
● Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills
● Computer literacy in desktop and internet-based applications and technologies
● Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:


Run church office and communications
● Prepare Sunday service programs, mid-week announcements
● Greet visitors, answer phones, emails mail and answer questions
● Oversees bookkeeper, coordinates electronic billing and receipts, submits payroll
● Helps prepare and monitor annual budget and monthly financial reports
● Responsible for Church website and oversees updates
Human Resources and Board
● Maintains Board minutes and records
● Implements church’s Human Resources program, including benefits
● Supervises custodial and support staff
Buildings and Properties
● Maintains church calendar
● Coordinates with renters, including contracts and billing
● Coordinates logistics with renters, staff, and building resources

Administration:

● Prepares Sunday service programs, mid-week announcements

● Oversees bookkeeper, coordinates electronic billing and receipts, submits payroll
● Helps prepare and monitor annual budget and monthly financial reports
● Responsible for Church website and oversees updates
