Councils & Committees
Communication Council exists to create standardized guidelines for official Church communications, both internal and external, and to ensure that those communications are regulated ethically, fairly, and responsibly.

Members of this Council are the persons responsible for: web site, bulletin boards, brochures, sound, library, and church bulletins.
Finance Council creates the annual budget and oversees all fiscal doings for First Unitarian Society.
Members of this Council are the chairpersons of the following committees: Buildings and Grounds, Endowment, Stewardship, Personnel, Finance
Membership Council oversees and coordinates the efforts of committees seeking to bring our Unitarian-Universalist message to an ever-increasing number of people.

Program Coordinating Council plans broad program initiatives and facilitates the coordination of—and communication among—the church's many and varied programs.

Any committee needing to schedule events on the church calendar sends a representative to PCC meetings.
Religious Education Council has responsibility for formulating the policies of the church's educational programs and related activities, and overseeing and evaluating the religious-education program in accordance with the philosophy of the church.

Responsibilities of this Council include the scheduling of: Adult RE, Affirmations and Adult Forums.
Social Justice Council exists to inform the congregation about important social and humanitarian needs and issues, and to provide avenues for constructive service and action. It also serves as the liaison between our church and the national Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), keeping members informed about, and facilitating participation in, UUSC projects. The Council also selects recipients of the weekly shared offering from local and other not-for-profits.
Under the umbrella of this Council are hands-on activities Babies First, Friendship Center Lunches, Kitchen Cupboard volunteers), and Action Teams (Health Care Reform, Civil Liberties, Anti-Racism, Anti-Fracking, Anti-War, Latin American Concerns, (DOVE) Demonstrating Our Values through Eating).
