A Volunteer’s Experience in Ukraine – Ray Stiefel

After many years, we are reinstituting the Adult Religious Exploration Program. We will meet on the first and third Sundays of each month from 9:00 to 10:15 am in the Annex — just before the Sunday service. Feel free to let us know your ideas for future sessions. Contact Preston Wilson at presbev1@gmail.com.

Ray Stiefel has lived at Ecovillage in Ithaca since 2013 as a founding member of the third neighborhood, TREE.  His interest in domestic and international volunteer projects has led him to provide humanitarian aid in Haiti (post-earthquake), New Orleans (post-Katrina), New York City (post-Sandy), and even here in Ithaca with “Love Knows No Bounds” now called “Neighbor to Neighbor”. This past April Ray spent four weeks in Prezmysyl, Poland working in a humanitarian relief center for refugees waiting to continue their journey to a host country. He spent his final week of the trip working with “World Central Kitchen”. Ray plans to return to Ukraine in November to assist with the recovery from the devastation of the war.

Based on the interests of folks attending the session, Ray will discuss the past, present, and future of Ukrainian/Russian relations.  He will also talk about ways we in Ithaca can assist the Ukrainian people in their struggle.
